AXA XL, Incline P&C Group and RSUM have announced key leadership appointments aimed at strengthening their respective positions in the specialty insurance and reinsurance markets.
Simon Rees has been appointed as AXA XL’s chief underwriting officer, North America Programs. Currently the chief reserving actuary for the Americas, Rees assumes his new role on April 1, reporting to Tim Whisler, wholesale solutions, Americas.
Rees joined the company in 2017, serving as head of reinsurance reserving for its international and London region. In 2021, he assumed the role of deputy chief actuary in the Americas before his promotion to chief actuary in 2022. With more than 20 years of insurance industry experience, Rees has worked with a range of businesses, from start-ups to large multinationals, and has led global teams to deliver financial results.
Commenting on the appointment, Whisler said that Rees’ experience and skillset will enhance the company’s capabilities in the specialty program market. “His expertise will be instrumental in strengthening our existing partnerships and evaluating and onboarding new programs as we focus on growth in this important segment of our business,” Whisler said.
Incline P&C Group has elected Thomas Wafer to the board of each of its insurance carriers as an independent director.
Wafer has more than 40 years of experience in reinsurance and insurance, with a record of leadership across several organizations.
Most recently, Wafer served as chairman of Willis Re/Gallagher Re North America, where he played a role in guiding strategic operations. His career includes senior roles such as president at Third Point Re (USA) Ltd., as well as president and chairman of Global Reinsurance at Alterra. He has led operations at Harbor Point Re in the US and Bermuda, as well as held positions at Chubb Re and Guy Carpenter Marsh & McLennan.
Wafer will support Incline’s program management and risk solutions efforts and serve on the company carriers’ audit committee.
Ryan Specialty has appointed Eric Quinn as president of its specialty underwriting segment, Ryan Specialty Underwriting Managers (RSUM), effective immediately. With this promotion, Miles Wuller, chief executive of RSUM will no longer hold the title of president.
Quinn joined Ryan Specialty Underwriting Managers through the acquisition of All Risks in 2020. Last year, he was promoted to executive vice president of Capital and Product Strategy for RSUM. He previously served as senior vice president and has held leadership roles in capital and program management.
