Family-owned wholesale broker Johnson & Johnson has acquired the assets of Suwanee-based managing general agency Strickland General Agency (SGA) for an undisclosed sum.

Set up as a full-service, multi-line excess & surplus MGA in 1967, SGA serves retail agencies in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, North Carolina, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

SGA’s new owner, located in Charleston, has been trading since 1930 and will provide access to a broad range of offerings to agencies served by SGA.

President Cliff Strickland, Sr., noted: “This will be the perfect fit for our MGA organization, and the Strickland team is honored to join their highly respected and successful organization.

“Most importantly, we believe our alignment with Johnson & Johnson allows us to further strengthen our valued relationships with our agents through an expanded array of products and services. I am confident the combined company will create many new opportunities.”

Meanwhile, Johnson & Johnson chair and chief executive Francis Johnson (pictured) commented that SGA’s arrival means the addition of a “terrific group” of colleagues and partner agencies.

“Together, we plan to bring a new level of passion, commitment, and resources to the independent agencies serviced by Strickland,” he added.

In a previous interview, Johnson & Johnson chief marketing officer Peter Burrous highlighted: “Our family culture is what sets us apart. If you need something as a teammate, I’m going to help you, even if it’s not my department. I think that’s really the glue that keeps us together… It’s the cohesiveness of the family atmosphere.”

As a full-service MGA, Johnson & Johnson provides insurance agents in the 48 contiguous US states with E&S markets, standard markets, and premium financing. It also offers nationwide private flood and certain program business.
