A former Coast Guard is making further inland moves into insurance, as he joined the Iroquois Group to become its regional manager for Florida in the South.

Richard Cole Shannahan will join the insurance network, following a previous stint at Brown and Brown Insurance, and four years with Bates & Hewett, Inc.

According to Iroquois, its new manager served with the Coast Guard for 10 years prior to hanging up his life jacket to join the insurance industry.

“Cole’s experience as an agent gives him added perspective on the challenges, needs, and opportunities of our Iroquois member agencies,” Iroquois South managing partner David Ward, said in a company statement. “His enthusiasm and experience coupled with Iroquois’ resources will (be) a potent combination for our members.”

Iroquois South is part of The Iroquois Group, which is a network of more than 2,200 independent agencies operating across 41 states. The group maintains a diverse membership which benefits from increased revenues, healthy margins, and enhanced agency value.
