The insurance industry is growing at an eye-catching rate – and it appears that growth is not about to slow down with 2017 shaping up to be another benchmark year…

However, the types of job that may be available in the sector appear to be changing.

GreatInsuranceJobs.com has released its Employment and Hiring Outlook Survey highlighting that 10,874 jobs are currently open across the 72 surveyed companies – with an additional 11,500 jobs to appear during the remainder of the year.

“While outstanding news for job seekers and the industry as a whole, record employment and a ticking time bomb of mass retirements will certainly add to the HR challenges of finding and retaining qualified hires,” noted Roger Lear, co-founder of GreatInsuranceJobs.com told StaffingIndustry.com. “There is no disputing that there may be a crisis brewing to replace an aging population with a more diverse, technology-driven workforce.”

Indeed a technological shift in the jobs available is another key point to note from the survey’s findings. It found that the top five positions insurance companies are looking to fill now include technological jobs alongside underwriting, claims, sales and customer service. It also noted that rather than swooping for talent from rival companies, many insurers are looking to hire from firms such as Facebook and Google

“For an industry that was considered behind the times when it came to technology (think manual rating of policies and AS400 networks), it has made up for lost time very quickly over the last five years,” Scott Kotroba, president and co-founder of GreatInsuranceJobs.com told StaffingIndustry.com. “Insurance is truly evolving, and companies are in the middle of a huge change in the way they are doing their core business.”
