Insurance Business has unveiled America’s best wholesale brokers and managing general agents (MGAs) for 2025.
US retail insurance brokers are engaging more frequently with wholesale brokers and MGAs, according to new data published by Insurance Business America (IBA).
The publication’s 2025 industry survey shows that 33% of responding brokers conducted at least half of their business through wholesalers or MGAs over the past year – a 10-point rise from the 23.35% reported in 2024.
This trend aligns with broader market shifts in the distribution of specialized and complex insurance solutions, as brokers seek access to broader underwriting capacity and niche expertise.
To identify standout performers in this growing segment, IBA surveyed retail insurance professionals across the country.
Respondents evaluated their wholesale partners on a scale of 1 (poor) to 5 (excellent) across 10 performance metrics, including:
Wholesale brokers and MGAs that received an average score of 4.0 or higher in any single category were recognized with a 5-Star designation. Those with a 4.0 or higher across all 10 categories were labeled as All-Star partners.
In addition to scoring service performance, the survey asked brokers to identify their top three wholesale partners by line of insurance across 20 major coverage areas. The leading three in each category were awarded gold, silver, and bronze rankings. MGAs also competed for a “Brokers’ Pick” medal, given to the most frequently cited products.
