The Mississippi Insurance Department (MID) has issued a cease and desist order to an insurance producer accused of failing to forward premiums he received from his clients.

James Michael Brand of Biloxi, MS, is the owner and operator of Brand Insurance Services, d/b/a. Gulf Coast Insurance. MID issued the order to Brand after it received numerous complaints and “significant documented evidence” from both insureds and insurance companies that have dealt with him, a release from the department read.

According to MID, Brand’s actions are a direct violation of Mississippi Code Ann. §83-17-71(1)d

Both Brand and his companies have 20 days to request a hearing to challenge the cease and desist order. If the request is not made, officials will consider the order permanent.

The department has urged anyone who has done business with Brand, or any company that has questions about their coverage or claims, to contact their insurance company directly.
