Of course it’s not the reason we do our jobs, but receiving industry recognition still gives you validation and a “warm fuzzy” feeling.

Jonathan Schreter, executive vice president at Bolton & Company, said industry recognition serves two purposes – it gives you industry validation, while it can also give you some street-cred among consumers.

Celebrate excellence in insurance. Nominate a worthy colleague for the Insurance Business Awards!

“I think the general public thinks that … like penguins, it’s challenging to tell the difference between any two of us,” he joked.

Schreter said that, credentials and designations aside, public recognition has the ability to make people stand up and take notice of the better individuals in the industry.

“To be publicly recognized by an industry publication is definitely a differentiator and has the ability to separate the wheat from the chaff, as the saying goes,” he said.

“Furthermore, this is a tough business.  In the words of Rodney Dangerfield, we don’t get much respect. Taking the time to recognize success and talent is important to put a positive spotlight on the industry and give others a model to strive for.”

Do you know someone who has succeeded above and beyond their peers? Nominations are now open for October’s Insurance Business Awards in Chicago.

Named as one of “Top Producers” by Insurance Business for 2017, Schreter said getting a top industry nod was gratifying.

“I see the recognition and validation of being named a Top Producer as only a by-product of having committed myself to a career that I truly enjoy,” he said. “It’s nice to get the warm fuzzy of a Top Producer Award, but it’s not why I do the job…

“The recognition has certainly elevated my status in the organization and my ability to impact its future,” he added. “It’s certainly validating to hear [colleagues’] congratulations.  I have been asked to mentor younger producers in the office, partly due to this recognition as well.”

Following on from Insurance Business Canada’s highly successful awards, Insurance Business America is pleased to announce the launch of the inaugural Insurance Business Awards in Chicago.
