IAT Insurance has announced that it has tapped Mike Zurcher as the new executive vice president of surety. Surcher succeeds the retiring Ken Chapman, who played a pivotal role in establishing and driving the success of IAT's surety business unit.
With over 30 years of extensive experience in surety and commercial property and casualty underwriting, Zurcher brings a wealth of knowledge to his new role. Prior to joining IAT, he held surety leadership positions at both Travelers and Chubb.
Zurcher's most recent role was field vice president, business insurance, Northeast Region at Travelers Insurance. He also served as business unit head of commercial surety at Travelers, responsible for overseeing worldwide commercial surety operations from 2015 to 2018. Earlier in his career, he was vice president and director of commercial surety at Chubb, where he co-led the commercial surety operation and portfolio for agents and brokers in the United States and Europe.
“I am immensely proud of the significant strides our Surety organization has taken under Ken Chapman’s leadership and wish him all the best in his well-deserved retirement,” said Bill Cunningham, CEO of IAT. “With Mike at the helm, I have no doubt that our surety division will continue its upward trajectory. Mike’s extensive expertise and established track record in the surety and commercial property and casualty underwriting sector will be a valuable asset to IAT as he assumes this critical leadership role.”
In other recent developments for IAT, the insurance group has also announced the appointment of Doug Johnson as a managing director in its assumed reinsurance division.
