International organization Gravity Water has received the City Solution of the Year award during the 2024 QBE AcceliCITY Resilience Challenge, which was hosted by Leading Cities and QBE Insurance Group.

The organization, which focuses on revolutionizing the water security and climate resilience of vulnerable communities through the use of rainwater harvesting technologies, received the award along with a $100,000 prize after an intensive boot camp and panel evaluation from representatives of organizations such as World Economic Forum, Clinton Global Initiative, RA Capital, and the Leading Cities board of directors.

“Congratulations to Gravity Water for their efforts in developing a cutting-edge solution that provides areas at risk of natural disasters around the world with access to safe drinking water,” said QBE North America CEO Julie Wood.

Leading Cities president and CEO Mike Lake said that access to safe water remains a big problem as it is denied to millions daily despite it being a fundamental right and a necessity.

“Addressing this issue with sustainable solutions is critical to breaking this cycle and protecting our future generations,” said Lake.

In addition to the cash prize, the organization will also be featured in the upcoming AcceliGOV program, which will have cities from all over the world competing over a pre-paid pilot of QBE’s AcceliCITY’s 2024 winning innovation.

About 740 entrepreneurs from 70 countries competed in the QBE AcceliCITY Resilience Challenge. Apart from the City Solution of the Year award, Gravity Water also received the 2024 Proptech Track award.

“We need solutions to water security that are sustainable and can reach global scale in years, not decades. The pilot grant from the QBE AcceliCITY Resilience Challenge gives us the opportunity to continue to help communities at risk of natural disasters to safely collect and manage rainwater, building resilience to flooding, drought, and other climate challenges,” said Gravity Water fdounder and executive Director Danny Wright.

“Our rainwater harvesting technologies will provide communities with access to a self-sufficient and long-term source of safe drinking water.”
