Howden Re has announced the appointment of Grange Turner (pictured above) as managing director of international casualty and head of international motor reinsurance.

In his new role, Turner will focus on Howden Re’s global international region, with particular emphasis on the UK and Nordics. 

Turner brings extensive experience in property and casualty (P&C) reinsurance broking to his new role. His career spans over two decades, with positions at leading firms including McGill and Partners, Willis Re, and Guy Carpenter.

At McGill and Partners, Turner served as a partner in the treaty reinsurance team, working across long-tail reinsurance classes to expand and service the client base. 

Prior to that, Turner was executive director at Willis Re for nearly 12 years, following his role as managing director at Guy Carpenter, where he worked for over five years. Earlier in his career, he held the position of casualty underwriting manager at Danish Re Syndicate for six years. 

Turner holds an MBA from Imperial College, London University, where his dissertation explored the application of portfolio theory to insurance books. He investigated how correlations between different classes of insurance, such as property, marine, and aviation, could contribute to developing a more efficient insurance portfolio. 

Turner also earned a master of arts in history from Robinson College, Cambridge University. 

In its LinkedIn post, Howden Re expressed enthusiasm for Turner’s expertise, noting that his leadership will strengthen the firm’s capabilities across international casualty and motor reinsurance.

Last month, the reinsurance specialist also expanded its operations in the DACH region with the appointment of four senior leaders in Germany.

Lars Nelson has been named managing director, head of the German branch of Howden Re, while Dr Bjoern Hagendorff has been appointed managing director, head of regional clients, Germany.

Dr-Ing. Mathias Raschke joins as director, nat cat modeling for Germany and Austria, and Verena Schärtl, Dipl. Math. (univ.) & Aktuar (DAV), will serve as director, head of actuarial for Germany and Austria.
