Gallagher has appointed Joe Gilliland as executive director within its US crisis management division.
In his new role, Gilliland’s responsibility will be to drive the company’s growth initiatives across the region, reporting to Gallagher Specialty crisis management managing director Paul Bassett and working closely with the existing US line-up headed by fellow executive director Bill Harrison.
Gilliland makes the switch from Sompo, where he spent the past two years as vice president of crisis management underwriting and North America team lead. His extensive career also includes senior positions at Beazley and Aon. The key hire is particularly skilled in handling terrorism, political violence, and active shooter insurance and risk management solutions.
Bassett commented on the new appointment: “Joe brings fantastic technical knowledge, great industry relationships, and strengthens our existing crisis management capability and what we can offer clients looking for support in this highly important area of cover.
“His experience of advising complex US-based clients gives us an excellent foundation to develop further products and support firms against the current fast-evolving threat landscape.”
The addition is part of the company’s hiring strategy designed to help it achieve its growth plans.
“Joe will be responsible for growing our client base and business alongside our existing terrorism advantage product offering led by Julia Abbott, also based in the US, and we are very pleased to have him on board,” Bassett added.
Meanwhile, Gilliland had this to say: “I am thrilled to be joining Gallagher and to have the opportunity to further develop its crisis management offering in the US. The products and services available to clients looking to protect their business from harm have developed over recent years, and Gallagher has taken a proactive risk management approach to support its client base.
“I will be looking to build on this and further develop specialized offerings and additional consultancy services.”
