Prosecutors said that Dotson collected premiums from his customers, telling them he was forwarding their payments to Security National Life Insurance Company. However, Dotson didn’t turn the money over to Security National, according to the Mississippi attorney general’s office.
The alleged fraud was discovered during an investigation by the secretary of state’s office and the Mississippi Insurance Department. The case was then referred to the AG’s Insurance Integrity Enforcement Bureau.
Dotson faces up to 40 years in prison if convicted.
