The Spencer Educational Foundation has named 70 full-time undergraduates, graduate students and pre-dissertation PhD candidates as its 2018 Spencer Scholars. The students were selected from a pool of more than 730 applicants.
The foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to funding the education of future risk management and insurance leaders.
It awarded 62 undergraduate scholarships of $5,000 each, five master’s scholarships of $10,000 each, and three pre-PhD dissertation scholarships of $10,000 each. The 2018 awards bring the total number of scholarships awarded by the foundation to 1,051.
“These scholarship recipients represent the future of our industry and, based on their collective credentials, our industry will be in very good hands,” said Tim Meacham, COO of Lockton Benefits Companies and Spencer’s scholarship committee chairman. “Since our inception, we have awarded more than 1,000 scholarships. These students have been, and continue to be, among the best and brightest students entering the workplace, and we thank our donors for their generosity, which allows us to continue our mission by providing them with these scholarships.”
The scholarships are merit-based, taking into account academic performance, leadership, industry interest and experience.
