A former NFL player and assistant coach is facing up to 30 years in prison for insurance fraud.
Marlon Tarron McCree was arrested Monday for insurance fraud. Authorities allege that McCree defrauded nearly $78,000 from an insurer.
McCree allegedly submitted phony doctor’s certificates and letters to the Gene Upshaw Health Reimbursement Account, according to a report by First Coast News in Jacksonville, Fla. The Florida Department of Financial Services (FDFS) claimed that McCree submitted a total of $7,950.28 in fraudulent claims.
An FDFS investigation allegedly found that McCree had created fraudulent invoices listing All Smiles Dental – but he’d never been a patient of the dental practice.
McCree played for nine seasons on various teams in the NFL, and served as an assistant coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2012. If convicted, he faces a fine of up to $30,000 in addition to prison time.
