Commercial property insurer FM Global has expanded its engagement with professional golf by sponsoring top Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) golfer and New England native, Megan Khang, through the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
Khang, 26, has earned acclaim on the LPGA Tour with 38 career top 10 finishes since her debut in 2016, including her first Tour victory at the 2023 CPKC Women’s Open in Canada and a third-place finish at the LPGA Drive On Championship in Florida this January. Residing just 60 miles from FM Global’s Rhode Island headquarters, her New England roots deepen the significance of the partnership.
The collaboration aligns with FM Global’s commitment to the sport, underscored by its introduction of the FM Global Championship – an LPGA tournament set to debut from August 29 to September 1, 2024, at TPC Boston in Norton, Massachusetts, USA. The event is poised to feature the largest prize pool for any LPGA Tour event outside of the majors and tour championship.
Commenting on the sponsorship, Khang highlighted the shared values between her and the insurer.
“I am thrilled to join the FM Global team. We share a belief in hard work, resilience, and striving for excellence,” she said. “We both understand the importance of evaluating and reducing risk – and quickly rebounding from adversity – whether it’s a natural hazard threatening a business or community or a hazard on the golf course that could disrupt my game.”
Malcolm Roberts, president and CEO of FM Global, praised Khang as an ideal partner to promote women’s professional golf in New England.
“We could not think of a better partner to help us bring women’s professional golf back to New England,” he said. “Megan brings a deep commitment to excellence and hard work both on and off the golf course, and we look forward to working together to raise awareness of our shared values and leverage our partnership to give back to our communities.”
The sponsorship entails Khang wearing FM Global’s logo on her apparel and participating in various company events throughout the year, including competing at the 2024 FM Global Championship.
The 2024 FM Global Championship will mark the LPGA Tour’s first return to New England since the 2004 US Women’s Open and its first appearance in the greater Boston area since 1997, signalling a significant moment for golf in the region.
