Tragedy has struck at another US high school after between eight and 10 people were killed during a shooting in Texas.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez has informed reporters that the majority of people killed at Sante Fe High School were students in what is the deadliest shooting since that in Parkland, Florida, back in February, which left 17 dead. A student is reported to be in custody following the shooting at the school approximately 40 miles, 65km, south of Houston.

In a BBC report, Sheriff Gonzalez stated his officers were in a “multiple casualty incident” with the final number of those killed not yet confirmed.

“An injured police officer is being treated, the extent of his injuries are unknown,” he had stated in an earlier tweet.

It is reported that a fire alarm went off shortly before 08:00 local time – but it was not clear how that alarm was activated.

“There was someone that walked in with a shotgun and started shooting,” said a student witness on KTRK-TV, “and this girl got shot in the leg.”

President Trump tweeted: “School shooting in Texas. Early reports not looking good. God bless all!”
