Asurion has announced plans to lay off some employees as part of an ongoing restructuring effort. The insurer said the layoffs will affect less than 3% of its 19,500 employees worldwide.
The company, which provides warranty and repair services, stated that the decision is aimed at reducing organizational complexity and streamlining operations.
In an email, Asurion said, "We’ve evaluated our organizational structures and business processes to reduce decision-making complexity and streamline operations," noting that the goal is to improve the company’s tech-care services for clients and customers.
Affected employees were notified this week and offered severance packages, benefits continuation, and outplacement services. The company did not announce any management changes at this time, AM Best reports.
"Our business remains strong, and with our strategy well-attuned to market conditions, these actions will help us stay agile and focused on our goals," the company said.
Asurion offers a range of services, including insurance, repairs, replacements, installations, and 24/7 support for devices, appliances, and connections. The company serves approximately 300 million customers globally, providing assistance for everything from cell phones and laptops to household appliances.
This is not the first time Asurion has implemented workforce reductions. In 2019, the company laid off hundreds of employees as part of operational changes. At that time, the workforce stood at 19,000, and the layoffs impacted around 1.5% of employees.
In April, USAA announced the elimination of 220 positions as part of adjustments to align with evolving business demands, a company spokesperson confirmed.
Roger Wildermuth, spokesperson for USAA, declined to specify which roles are affected by the cuts. However, he noted that the company is actively hiring and has filled approximately 2,900 positions so far in 2024.
