Aspen Insurance Holdings has announced the appointment of Robert Tartaglia (pictured above) to the newly created position of senior vice president and chief operations officer, insurance. The appointment is effective from July 3.
Tartaglia has more than 20 years of experience in insurance and reinsurance, and extensive knowledge in complex global operations, IT, and transformation. His previous roles include global COO at Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty, chief broking COO at Aon, and various senior operations and technology positions at American International Group. Most recently, he served as operational strategy and growth leader at AIG, where he led transformation initiatives within the high net worth division, focusing on organizational design, operational effectiveness, and technology implementation.
In his new role, Tartaglia will lead Aspen’s transformation efforts across insurance operations, with a specific emphasis on enhancing processes, data management, and system capabilities to align with the company’s commercial and business strategy. He will be based at Aspen’s offices in Jersey City, New Jersey.

“I am thrilled to welcome Robert to Aspen,” said Rob Houghton, group chief operations officer at Aspen. “His expertise in insurance operations and his leadership in driving transformation will be instrumental in advancing our insurance segment and establishing cutting-edge back-office operations. Attracting top talent like Robert to our team demonstrates the strong market reputation Aspen has cultivated over the years and the strength of our insurance division."
Tartaglia is the latest addition to Aspen’s roster. Earlier this month, the company announced the appointment of John Welch as chief underwriting officer for reinsurance. In March, the company added former Florida insurance commissioner David Altmaier to its board as a non-executive director.
