Arizona appoints interim director of insurance

Governor Doug Ducey has named an insurance veteran to take over as interim director with the state’s Department of Insurance

The Office of the Director of Arizona’s Department of Insurance announced on Feb. 9 that  Governor Doug Ducey had appointed Leslie Hess to serve as the department’s interim director.

Hess has more than 25 years of experience working in the insurance and financial services industries, serving both the private and public sector. She was deputy receiver and legal advisor for the Department of Insurance for 12 years. Previously, she was with the Arizona Legislative Council for 2 years, and the Securities Division of the Arizona Corporation Commission for 6 years.

She also once worked for Merrill Lynch and Bear Stearns in New York and served as the director of compliance and corporate secretary for Oxford Life Insurance Company and its subsidiaries.

Hess earned her Juris Doctor degree from George Washington University Law School in Washington, D.C. She is licensed to practice law in Arizona and New York. Originally from New York, Hess has lived in Arizona since 1991.
