Alliant Insurance Services named Tara Lagu executive vice president and medical director for its Employee Benefits Group’s value-based healthcare solutions team.

The team focuses on improving cost and quality outcomes for customers, while allowing accountable care organizations, Medicare Advantage plans, health systems and provider practices to benefit from risk-based contracts.

Prior to joining Alliant, Lagu was director and professor at the Center for Health Services and Outcomes Research of Northwestern University’s Institute for Public Health and Medicine. She was also a practising hospitalist for 20 years and a clinical lead for CMS quality metrics.

Experienced as conducting various research on risk-based government contracts, Lagu will work with executive and clinical leadership to drive performance improvement and change across various programs and clinical settings.

Based in Maine, Lagu is expected to improve her team’s ability to deliver value-based solutions tailored to the evolving needs of the healthcare industry, leveraging from her more than 20 years of experience in the field.

“Dr. Lagu’s exceptional background as a physician-scientist and healthcare leader makes her uniquely qualified to lead and support our clients in achieving their goals within value-based healthcare frameworks,” said Kevin Overbey, president of Alliant Employee Benefits. “Her work will help our clients optimize performance and deliver better care to the communities they serve.”

The appointment seems to complement the company’s recent acquisition. In June, Alliant Insurance acquired Florida-based Health Market Solutions. The health insurance agency focuses on direct-to-consumer Affordable Care Act (ACA) plans.

It also recently acquired Union First, a benefits consulting and third-party administration firm.

Elsewhere in the company, Mark Rusas and Peter Miraglia joined the mergers and acquisitions specialty practice in New York in August. Rusas joined as executive vice president and managing director of Alliant Specialty, while Miraglia was named executive vice president at Alliant M&A.
