“I am deeply saddened by Tom Motamed’s recent passing. He served on the AIG board of directors since January 2019 and was a steady presence during a critical part of AIG’s turnaround and transformation,” said Peter Zaffino, chairman & chief executive officer.
Motamed was the chairman and chief executive officer of CNA Financial Corporation from 2009 to 2016. He chaired the executive committee responsible for strategy, results, and oversight of all business units of CNA Financial Corporation.
He also spent over 30 years at The Chubb Corporation, where he rose to the position of vice chairman and chief operating officer.
During his tenure at Chubb, Motamed held various claims management positions, including managing attorney in-house counsel, litigation manager, and national claim audit manager.
Subsequently, he served in the company’s field organization, including the marketing manager, branch manager, and Western Zone officer.
Motamed made significant contributions to the insurance industry through his expertise, leadership, and service on various boards of directors.
He was a member of the Insurance Information Institute board of directors; a member and past chairman of the Adelphi University board of trustees; a member of the Verisk Analytics board of directors; a member of The Institute board of trustees; and a member of the World Business Chicago board of directors.
AIG announced in January 2023 that Mohamed was retiring from the board of directors for health reasons.
At the time Zaffino expressed his gratitude to Motamed for his leadership and many contributions to AIG over the last few years.
