Specialty Program Group (SPG) has announced a strategic partnership with the wholesale employee benefits division of Western Growers Assurance Trust (WGAT).
Known for its expertise in health insurance and benefits for the agricultural sector, WGAT will now operate as Western Growers Assurance Trust Specialty under this new association, aiming to enhance its reach and capabilities within the agricultural industry.
WGAT, established in 1957, specializes in offering health benefit plans tailored to the agricultural workforce, serving a broad range of clients from farms to processors and distributors. The organization has built a strong reputation for understanding and addressing the unique demands of agricultural employers, supporting their workforce’s health and wellness needs.
With the support of SPG, WGAT plans to leverage the collaboration to expand its wholesale offerings, maintaining its focus on flexible, high-quality employee benefits for agriculture-focused businesses.
SPG president Chris Treanor highlighted the synergy between the two organizations, stating: “The wholesale employee benefits division of Western Growers Assurance Trust is a great association for SPG. WGAT is well-respected in the agricultural sector, and we’re ready to build on that by bringing our strong reputation and access to expertise and resources to help grow the business and support brokers and their clients.”
WGAT’s leadership echoed the sentiment, with Western Growers president and CEO Dave Puglia (pictured) saying: “Western Growers Assurance Trust enters into this exciting partnership from a position of financial strength.
“We are excited that SPG’s reputation as well as the resources and expertise SPG can offer will propel WGAT in the marketplace and strengthen our members’ ability to provide high-quality and affordable health benefits to their employees.”
Headquartered in Chicago, SPG has a portfolio spanning underwriting management, digital solutions, wholesale and retail brokerage, and insurance services. WGAT, meanwhile, focuses on health benefit plans that address the distinct needs of the agricultural sector, including farms, processing plants, and distribution channels.
