As the consumer preference for larger vehicles continues to rise, Mercury Insurance has identified the most affordable new trucks and SUVs to insure for 2024.
The research comes amid record sales in the SUV segment, accounting for 48% of global vehicle sales last year. Experts predict that, by 2025, the light truck segment, including SUVs, will comprise 78% of sales.
“The appeal of trucks and SUVs is that they can handle weekday work commutes as well as weekend excursions,” said Chong Gao, Mercury Insurance’s director of product management R&D. “New models have fantastic fuel economy and come in a variety of sizes to fit various lifestyles. Mercury Insurance wants to educate consumers about which truck or SUV might be the best fit for them and their families.”
Chevrolet leads the pack with the Colorado and Silverado taking the top two spots. Ford dominates the list with five models in the top 10.
Fiat’s 500X is the most budget-friendly SUV to insure, while Honda secures four spots in the top 10, highlighting its presence in the market.
