The Hartford’s chief diversity, equity and inclusion officer, Susan Johnson leads enterprise-wide D&I initiatives, aligning them with business strategies. Johnson partners with leaders to create an inclusive work environment, ensuring that The Hartford’s workforce reflects its stakeholder base; supports the acquisition, development and retention of talent; and focuses the company on business priorities related to diversity. Prior to The Hartford, Johnson served in HR and talent and diversity leadership roles at several Fortune 500 companies. She also has experience working on political campaigns and on policy and management issues in the public sector. Outside of work, she chairs the board of the Harriet Beecher Stowe Center and is board secretary for the National African American Insurance Association. In 2019, Johnson was recognised in Savoy’ Most Influential Women in Corporate list, as well as in Insurance Business America’s Leading the Change list. This year, she once again made it to IBA’s Hot 100 list of standout insurance professionals. Johnson studied Industrial and Labor Relations in Cornell University, and earned her B.A. in Sociology, minor in Business from Spelman College.
