McGill and Partners, a global specialty insurance and reinsurance broker, has appointed John Barry (pictured above left) and Jack Farrell (pictured above right) as partners in specialty broking for its Ireland operations.
Both professionals bring significant experience in the insurance sector and join the firm from WTW.
Barry previously served as head of financial lines and construction practices at WTW, formerly known as Coyle Hamilton, where he spent over 30 years. His expertise includes complex directors and officers (D&O) insurance programs for private and public companies, as well as professional indemnity, crime, and cyber insurance.
He has also provided advisory and due diligence services to funders and government agencies and has acted as an authority insurance advisor on the majority of public-private partnerships (PPPs) in Ireland to date.
Farrell, formerly a corporate broker and construction industry leader at WTW, started his career as a quantity surveyor before transitioning to insurance. With more than 11 years of experience, he has provided insurance advisory services, program design, and placement solutions for large developers, contractors, and funders.
In their roles at McGill and Partners, Barry and Farrell will focus on expanding the firm’s business in Ireland and Europe, particularly in the construction sector. This includes work with contractors, developers, and projects involving single project insurance, PPPs, and latent defects coverage.
Barry will also lead initiatives related to financial lines, including aviation insurance, due diligence, and large property risks, while Farrell will focus on developing the European property and construction specialty, targeting large and complex risks.
McGill and Partners’ Irish office, which now employs over 30 people, continues to experience growth. The firm has highlighted its commitment to strengthening its presence in Ireland and expanding its operations across Europe.
Stephen Cross, head of innovation and strategy at McGill and Partners, said that Barry and Farrell bring extensive experience in managing insurance for businesses with complex needs and providing advisory services.
“They are perfectly placed to grow our specialty broking arm in Ireland. We are delighted to have them join our expanding team and look forward to working with them,” Cross said.
