Re/insurance specialist Guy Carpenter has announced the appointment of Cem Altuntas as managing director in the Capital & Advisory team.
Based in the firm's New York office, Altuntas will focus on capital raising and M&A advisory services, primarily supporting clients across North America. His role officially began in December.
Altuntas brings over a decade of experience in insurance-focused investment banking. Before joining Guy Carpenter, he served as executive director at UBS in its Financial Institutions Group, specializing in insurance services and technology from September 2019 to November 2024.
His previous roles include senior positions at Moelis & Company, Merrill Lynch, and Citi, where he worked in financial institutions advisory with a focus on insurance.
Altuntas’s career began in engineering, where he served as an assistant project manager at Langan Engineering & Environmental Services. He transitioned to finance after earning an MBA in Finance and Economics from NYU Stern School of Business, which included an exchange program at London Business School.
He also holds a master's degree in engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Middle East Technical University.
Last month, the Marsh McLennan company also announced that it will acquire the remaining 51.5% of shares in Carpenter Turner, an Athens-based reinsurance broking and advisory firm. The financial terms of the transaction, expected to close by year-end, were not disclosed.
As part of the acquisition, Alexander Turner, the current CEO of Carpenter Turner, will become CEO of Guy Carpenter Greece. Turner will report to Julian Enoizi, CEO of Guy Carpenter Europe, and oversee the firm’s reinsurance operations in Greece and Cyprus.
Carpenter Turner, founded in 2013 as a joint venture between its local management and Guy Carpenter, has focused on reinsurance in Greece, Cyprus, the Balkans, and Turkey. The firm combines regional expertise with Guy Carpenter’s analytical resources and global market access.
