Gallagher Re has announced the appointment of Karsten Lüers as regional director for credit, surety, and political risk.
Lüers (picrtured) will be based in the company’s Munich office and will contribute as a senior member of Gallagher Re’s Global Credit, Surety, and Political Risk practice group.
Lüers brings over 23 years of experience in the reinsurance sector, with a focus on credit, surety, and political risk. In his new role, he will support Gallagher Re’s existing client base while also working to expand the company’s market presence in key regions.
Gallagher Re says that the appointment aligns with its efforts to enhance its capabilities and deepen its expertise within the credit, surety, and political risk segments globally. The company noted that Lüers’ extensive industry knowledge positions him to contribute effectively to these objectives.
The company has not disclosed further details regarding the immediate initiatives under Lüers' leadership. However, the appointment underscores Gallagher Re’s focus on strengthening its services and market position in this specialized area of reinsurance.
Earlier this month, Gallagher Re announced the promotion of Ben Wathen to chief claims officer. In this role, Wathen will lead the company’s Global Claims Advocacy team, bringing over two decades of experience in claims management, underwriting, and broking.
Before joining Canopius, Wathen worked at MS Amlin for nearly seven years. He held positions as senior claims adjuster from January 2017 to February 2019 and claims adjuster from May 2012 to December 2016. Earlier in his career, he was a reinsurance claims technician at Amlin plc from November 2004 to April 2012.
