CNA Hardy has named Clive Magnus (pictured) as its new active underwriter for Lloyd’s Syndicate 382, effective starting July 1 and pending regulatory approval. Magnus will immediately join the senior leadership team.

Meanwhile, Carl Day, who has served CNA Hardy for nine years, has resigned from his role as active underwriter of Syndicate 382 and will be departing the company.

Magnus has been with CNA Hardy since October 2015, initially serving as class manager - upstream energy. His career, which spans over 40 years, includes various specialist underwriting and operations roles. Magnus has also held positions such as deputy active underwriter and active underwriter, showcasing his extensive industry experience.

The CEO and president for the UK and Europe, Jalil Rehman, commented on the appointment and what Magnus brings to the new role.

“His previous experience and outstanding ability to deliver market leading performance made his appointment a very easy choice. Clive’s diverse experience, exceptional leadership skills and commitment to the development of talent within the insurance industry will ensure that our business-critical Lloyd’s syndicate remains a top-performing operation. Clive brings enthusiasm and vision for the next phase of our evolution,” Rehman said.

Back in June, the company’s parent, CNA Financial Corporation, also announced the promotion of Doug Worman who will step into the roles of president and chief executive at the start of next year.

The appointment also saw chairman and CEO Dino E Robusto transitioning to the executive chairman position. In his new capacity beginning 2025, Robusto will lead the CNA board of directors while acting as a strategic advisor to Worman, supporting the company’s objectives.

“Doug is an exceptional underwriting executive and has strengthened and solidified CNA’s underwriting culture and profitability,” Robusto said. “Along with the board, I am confident in Doug’s ability to lead CNA forward. He builds excellent organisational talent, skilfully cultivates broker relationships, and drives innovation to deliver industry-leading products and services for business customers.”
