Westfield Specialty International has appointed Chris Gray as divisional director within its newly launched reinsurance division.
Based in London, Gray will report to Jeremy Shallow, chief underwriting officer of Westfield Specialty International.
He has overseen underwriting across multiple lines, including marine and energy, casualty, protection and indemnity (P&I), agriculture, terrorism, and political violence and risk.
According to Graham Evans, CEO of Westfield Specialty International, the company views its expanded reinsurance platform as a key element in its long-term growth plans and that Gray is expected to lead this area.
Evans also noted that the company’s mutual structure allows it to implement long-term strategies and attract underwriting professionals like Gray, as part of efforts to expand and support its team over the past two years.
Westfield Specialty International has also recently undertaken significant expansion efforts and made several key appointments to strengthen its global insurance and reinsurance operations.
For 2025, Westfield Specialty International received approval from Lloyd’s for a Syndicate Business Forecast of £774 million, representing an 8% increase over the 2024 forecast. The company aims for a total growth of 33% from its pre-acquisition baseline by the end of 2025.
Earlier this month, the company also expanded its reinsurance capabilities with the appointment of Nate Field as class underwriter for casualty treaty reinsurance. Field will be based in London.
He joins from RenaissanceRe, where he held the role of senior treaty underwriter. Field brings nearly 15 years of experience across the reinsurance sector.
In March, Westfield Specialty International also announced two senior appointments, with Pete Stephens joining as head of the professional indemnity team and Hattie Hassall as a senior PI underwriter.
