Munich Re has appointed Hanh Nguyen (pictured above) as head of treaty P&C underwriting for Southeast Asia and India, effective March 1.
She takes over from Joachim Zagrosek, who has been named head of property and casualty treaty underwriting Germany. Nguyen will be based in Munich in her new role.
Nguyen has been with Munich Re since joining as regional property treaty manager in the Southeast Asian & Japan regional underwriting team. Since July 2024, she has served as deputy head of treaty P&C Underwriting for SEA and India.
With 19 years of reinsurance experience across multiple Asian markets, she brings industry knowledge to her new role.
As she takes on the new role, Nguyen emphasized the importance of underwriting discipline in the region, citing events like Hurricane Yagi as reminders of the exposure to natural disasters.
Munich Re’s expansion into the segment comes as insurance risks trend lower in the region compared to its peers, according to Moody’s. However, P&C insurers in the APAC region also see higher asset risks compared to their peers in the US.
According to the credit agency’s report, APAC insurers have been actively reducing their exposure to equity and credit risks while reallocating capital to fuel diversified business growth. This trend, according to the report, strengthens the insurers’ capital efficiency and overall resilience in the face of evolving market conditions.
Outside of its treaty P&C expansion in the region, the giant reinsurer also recently announced the appointment of Christa Schwimmer as chief executive for its specialty reinsurance and Lloyd's and Bermuda operations.
Schwimmer is a Munich Re veteran of more than two decades, and she stepped into the role after a stint as senior executive manager for the Lloyd’s and Bermuda businesses.
