Odyssey Reinsurance Company (OdysseyRe) has appointed Matthew Sheppard (pictured above) as deputy chief underwriting officer for the company's London branch.

In his new position, Sheppard will work alongside chief underwriting officer Andre-Francois Rocque in managing OdysseyRe’s London Market reinsurance business.

Sheppard has been with OdysseyRe since 2010 and has led the property treaty and retrocession unit since 2017. Over the course of his career, he has accumulated more than 20 years of experience in the reinsurance sector, with a focus on treaty and retrocession underwriting, contributing to his expanded responsibilities in the London branch.

The London branch operates as part of OdysseyRe’s London Market Division, underwriting a range of treaty reinsurance lines, including property, casualty, marine, aviation and space, and specialty segments. It serves both global clients and those based within the London Market, including Lloyd’s syndicates.

Bob Pollock, chief executive officer of OdysseyRe’s London branch, said Sheppard has shown strong underwriting ability and leadership within the company.

“We’re thrilled to have him serve as our first deputy chief underwriting officer and look forward to him executing his new role,” Pollock said.

OdysseyRe is part of Odyssey Group Holdings, Inc. In 2023, Odyssey Group announced leadership changes, including the appointment of Carl Overy as global CEO of OdysseyRe.

Overy previously served for 15 years as CEO of Odyssey Group’s London Market Division, where he oversaw the operations of the London branch of OdysseyRe and Newline Group.

The reinsurer, headquartered in Stamford, Conn., operates through a network of 14 branch and representative offices across North America, Latin America, EMEA, Asia-Pacific, and London.

In October, OdysseyRe also appointed Daniel Boisvert as senior vice president for its property treaty unit. Boisvert joined OdysseyRe with more than 20 years of experience in reinsurance, previously serving as senior vice president of treaty underwriting at Munich Reinsurance America.
