Aventum has appointed Jonathan Butcher as non-executive chairman. He brings 35 years of Lloyd's and London market experience to the International (Re)Insurance Group.
Butcher previously served as CEO and underwriting director at Novae Syndicates, where he spent 14 years before its US$600+ million sale to AXIS in 2017.
His career includes 13 years at Lloyd's and 11 years at the Sturge Group PLC in senior underwriting roles across multiple classes with property and casualty focus.
Butcher joined the board of the Lloyd's Market Association in 2015 and has been a non-executive director at Rokstone since 2022. At Rokstone, he helped introduce management and operational rigour to support growth.
"[Butcher] has had a strong and illustrious career and has proven to be a highly capable guiding influence during a period of sustained fast growth for Rokstone over the last few years," Aventum CEO David Bearman said.
Aventum is a global independent specialty insurance group trading more than US$1.86 billion in gross written premium annually through 17 global offices.
The group offers clients specialist and niche solutions in all lines of P&C (re)insurance globally through its reputable international (re)insurance broking arm, Consilium, and global MGA operation, Rokstone.
"Aventum has a dynamic management team – highly creative, daring and intelligent with an impressive work ethic; a force to be reckoned with," said Butcher.
Butcher will work closely with the Board and leadership team to contribute to the group's growth.
"The group has overt and seemingly limitless ambition and has a rare combination of all the right ingredients to succeed," Butcher said. "I have been impressed with how Aventum invests with confidence in its people, technology and infrastructure."
