To advance its use of data in pricing and risk assessment, Greenlight Reinsurance Ltd. has appointed Martin Vezina as head of underwriting analytics, effective immediately.
Vezina will lead the company’s underwriting analytics and pricing functions from its headquarters in Grand Cayman. His responsibilities include applying analytical tools to support risk evaluation and guide underwriting decisions.
The appointment brings more than three decades of industry experience to Greenlight Re. Vezina’s background includes senior underwriting roles at Allianz, New Ocean Capital, AQR Re, and Markel, which incorporated Alterra, Harbor Point Re, and Chubb Re through previous mergers. Early in his career, he held actuarial positions at American Re and Overseas Partners Re.
The company said Vezina has worked extensively in the property catastrophe and insurance-linked securities sectors. His experience in these areas is expected to contribute to how the firm manages underwriting exposures and pricing models.
According to Greenlight Re’s management, integrating analytics into its underwriting process remains a priority, particularly as external market conditions evolve.
In August, the company reported a cautious approach to casualty lines due to inflation and geopolitical uncertainty. It continues to assess macroeconomic factors in its underwriting strategy.
Greenlight Capital Re Ltd., the parent company, provides reinsurance through its licensed subsidiaries and operates in multiple global markets. Its approach involves incorporating analytics to support portfolio management and pricing decisions.
