Gallagher Re has appointed Satoshi Yamazaki (pictured above) as a senior manager in its Tokyo office, effective this month. Yamazaki brings over a decade of reinsurance experience, having held treaty and facultative underwriting roles across multiple global hubs.
Prior to joining Gallagher Re, Yamazaki spent nearly eight years at Swiss Re, where he most recently served as senior property treaty underwriter and vice president based in Tokyo. He also completed a temporary assignment in Australia during the 2022 renewal season.
Before that, he was involved in underwriting property and onshore energy facultative risks in Japan and held a similar position serving clients across the EMEA region from Zurich.
His earlier experience includes nearly six years at XL Catlin in roles spanning Tokyo, Singapore, London, Zurich, and Bermuda. During his tenure, he worked as a reinsurance underwriter focused on property and energy facultative business and held assistant representative and executive assistant representative titles.
Before transitioning into reinsurance, Yamazaki worked as a project manager and engineer in the oil and gas and civil engineering sectors, with roles at Civil Engineering Dynamics, Wood Group PSN, Tenaris, and TWI.
He holds academic credentials in metallurgy, civil engineering dynamics, and statistics, and is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII). His career has included extensive international exposure, with assignments in the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Bermuda, Singapore, and Japan.
Last month, Gallagher Re also appointed Tom Dixon as head of legacy UK, adding an experienced transaction and legacy specialist to its leadership team as it aims to develop its presence in the UK’s legacy reinsurance market.
Dixon brings two decades of experience spanning insurance audit, finance, mergers and acquisitions, and legacy portfolio management.
Also in April, the reinsurance broker named Riaan Botes as regional director for its South Africa operations.
Botes brings more than 25 years of reinsurance experience to the role, including prior leadership and actuarial positions at major South African insurers. He most recently served as head of underwriting at Santam Re from January 2022 through December 2024.
