Chaucer Group has appointed Emma Brown and Andy Cleair (pictured above) as class underwriters within its international property division.

Both will be based in London and report to Mel Smart, head of international property fac.

Brown and Cleair will support the growth of the international property portfolio, focusing on developing new business opportunities through their broker networks while maintaining existing accounts.

Brown brings more than 20 years of experience in the Lloyd’s and company markets. She joins from SCOR, where she served as a senior property underwriter for over five years. Prior to SCOR, she worked at Navigators as an international property underwriter and held senior underwriting positions at Novae, Liberty, and Allied World, primarily focusing on the property class of business.

Cleair also brings over 20 years of Lloyd’s and company market experience. He joins Chaucer from Everest Syndicate, where he was a senior property underwriter. Before Everest, he worked at Aviva as a property underwriting manager overseeing direct and facultative (D&F) business. He also spent more than 13 years at XL as a senior property underwriter, managing large, complex multinational programs.

Smart said Brown and Cleair’s expertise in the international property space makes them strong additions to the team and will play a key role in building the portfolio.

With Brown and Cleair’s appointments, Chaucer’s international property fac team now includes nine underwriters across offices in London, Miami and Dubai, each with more than 20 years of market experience.

Smart said the team is fully equipped to navigate today’s market while working toward the next five-year growth plans.

The re/insurance group’s last major appointment was in November, when it named Jonathan Ng as class underwriter in political risk for its Singapore office. He joined Chaucer from AXA XL, where he specialized in political risk underwriting as part of Catlin’s Lloyd’s syndicate, focusing primarily on development and commercial banks.
