Gallagher Re announced that Ben Lyon (pictured) has been appointed head of its capital advisory practice in London and chief executive officer of Gallagher Securities Limited, the firm's UK-based securities entity. His appointment is subject to regulatory approval.
Lyon will work closely with Gallagher Re's broader Insurance-Linked Securities (ILS) team. He brings a background in law and leadership experience in insurance and asset management sectors.
Prior to joining Gallagher Re, Lyon served as counsel at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, where he focused on insurance and asset management-related mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, reinsurance transactions, regulatory matters, corporate governance issues, and capital markets transactions in the United Kingdom and internationally.
Before his tenure at Skadden, Lyon spent 12 years as international counsel at Debevoise & Plimpton, advising clients on a range of corporate and regulatory matters across global insurance markets.
Lyon holds a bachelor of laws and a bachelor of commerce from the University of Auckland. He completed his secondary education at Auckland Grammar School.
In addition to his legal and executive roles, Lyon is a member of the UK Chartered Insurance Institute and the British Insurance Law Association, organizations that support professional development and policy dialogue within the insurance sector.
Lyon’s appointment follows recent leadership changes within Gallagher Securities. Earlier this year, Jason Bolding was named CEO of Gallagher Securities, succeeding Bill Dubinsky, who transitioned to the role of chairman. This change reflects Gallagher Securities’ ongoing efforts to strengthen its leadership structure and expand its capabilities in capital markets advisory and insurance-linked securities.
Outside of the leadership shifts in Gallagher Securities, Gallagher Re also recently named Lisa Duncan as senior vice president for its North America program solutions division. Duncan brings more than 16 years of experience in the reinsurance sector. She most recently served as senior vice president at BMS Re US.
In Asia, the reinsurance broker also appointed Chulmin Jang as CEO of its operations in Korea as part of the firm’s continued efforts to strengthen its leadership in key markets.
