Ariel Re has named Rohan Pai as its new chief financial officer (CFO), the global reinsurance company announced. Pai assumed the role on April 1 and will be based in Bermuda, according to a news release.

In his new position, Pai will oversee the company’s financial reporting and treasury functions as Ariel Re continues its strategic growth. The company, which operates in Bermuda, London, and Hong Kong, specializes in property catastrophe reinsurance and other risk management solutions.

Pai joins Ariel Re from Velocity Risk Underwriters, where he served as CFO and played a key role in shaping the company’s financial strategies, the news release said. His experience also includes leadership roles at Selective Insurance, RenaissanceRe, and investment banking positions at Deutsche Bank and Bank of America.

“We are excited to welcome Rohan to the team. His deep expertise in financial management and the reinsurance sector will be instrumental as we continue to grow and strengthen our market position,” said Ariel Re CEO Ryan Mather.

“I am thrilled to join Ariel Re and work alongside such a talented team,” said Pai. “The company has a strong brand and reputation, and ambitious plans for the future. I look forward to contributing to Ariel Re’s ongoing success.”

The appointment comes amid a period of continued growth experienced by the broader Bermuda reinsurance market. While the market’s generally healthy, projections for 2025 suggest a shift. After a period of strong growth, net premiums written across the Bermuda reinsurance market are expected to increase at a slower pace this year.

Additionally, the recent California wildfires are projected to have a negative impact on the first-quarter earnings of Bermuda reinsurers and could add around four percentage points to their 2025 combined ratio.

Ariel Re operates through Lloyd’s Syndicate 1910 and offers reinsurance solutions to clients worldwide.
