The Association of Bermuda Insurers & Reinsurers (ABIR), The Institutes Knowledge Group, and Bermuda College are expanding opportunities for students to develop leadership and technical insurance skills through the CPCU Collegiate Studies Program.
The initiative is aimed at promoting insurance as a career path and providing students with foundational knowledge in risk management and insurance.
The collaboration seeks to connect Bermuda College students with ABIR’s professional network and provide insights into career opportunities in the insurance and reinsurance sectors.
The program is designed to enhance technical skills while offering mentorship and guidance from ABIR and its member companies, which include leading insurers and reinsurers based in Bermuda.
Bermuda College launched The Institutes’ CPCU 500 Becoming a Leader in Risk Management and Insurance course in fall 2024, with CPCU 520 Meeting Challenges Across Insurance Operations scheduled for the spring semester.
These courses provide students with a pathway to earn credits toward the CPCU designation, a widely recognized credential in property-casualty insurance.
ABIR said that the CPCU designation is regarded as a premier leadership credential in the industry, representing expertise and professionalism in property-casualty insurance. Students enrolled in these courses gain access to a structured curriculum and networking opportunities with ABIR member organizations, which the group says will help prepare them for leadership roles in the industry.
The Institutes Knowledge Group, which has more than 110 years of experience in developing insurance and risk management training programs, is contributing its expertise to the initiative.
In January, ABIR also marked the launch of its free online foundational insurance course. Bermuda’s minister for Economy and Labor participated in a virtual roundtable titled "Socio-economic Impact of International Business in Bermuda” that served as the opening session for the fifth annual “Special Topics in Insurance” program.
