Major New Zealand life insurer Fidelity Life has named Scott Pickering as an independent director on its board.

“Scott’s extensive experience in the insurance sector, combined with his impressive track record in governance, makes him a great addition to our board,” said Fidelity Life interim chair Lindsay Smartt. “His leadership and strategic insight will be invaluable as we begin deploying our new strategic plan, and chart a course for long term success.”

Who is Scott Pickering?

Pickering (pictured) brings considerable expertise in governance and insurance.

He is currently a board member at Kiwibank, IAG New Zealand, IAG Australia, and Bowls New Zealand, and serves as an advisor to HealthNow. Previously, he served on the board of Chubb in New Zealand and Australia.

During his tenure as chief executive of ACC New Zealand, Pickering led significant business transformations. He also held regional CEO roles with Willis Towers Watson in South Africa and Dubai.

“Scott’s passion for the insurance industry and his dedication to mentoring make him a perfect fit for Fidelity Life. We’re thrilled to welcome him to the board,” Smartt said.

Fidelity Life’s new chief information officer

The insurance veteran joins Fidelity Life following the appointment of Angela Henderson as the company’s new chief information officer (CIO), effective May 2024.

Henderson has over 15 years of experience in the financial services industry across New Zealand and the UK. Her career includes senior roles in digital and transformation at Air New Zealand, Westpac NZ, and Ports of Auckland. She is also an advocate for women in business and technology.

In her role at Fidelity Life, Henderson is responsible for overseeing the insurer’s portfolio governance and project delivery. This move is part of Fidelity Life’s broader strategy to enhance its digital initiatives and complete significant transformation projects aimed at offering advanced digital solutions for advisers and planning future strategic developments.

“Angela is a great addition to our team and a great fit for Fidelity Life. Her deep experience in portfolio governance, change management, and product delivery, not to mention digital strategy and leadership, is something the team is really looking forward to tapping into,” said Fidelity Life CEO Campbell Mitchell. “It’s certainly an exciting time to be joining as we work towards closing out some significant transformation projects, delivering digital initiatives for advisers, and plan ahead for our next strategic horizons.”
