Chubb Life New Zealand has announced Lee-Ann du Toit as its new chief actuary.

Du Toit (pictured), who currently serves as the president of the New Zealand Society of Actuaries, will report directly to CEO Gail Costa and join the insurer’s senior leadership team.

Du Toit comes to Chubb Life from Deloitte New Zealand, where she led the firm’s insurance sector practice and served as lead partner for Actuarial Services.

In her new position, she will focus on providing actuarial guidance and strategic input to support the company’s leadership and board decisions.

Welcoming Du Toit to the Chubb Life NZ leadership team, Costa said the new addition’s leadership and deep actuarial expertise will enhance the company’s ability to adapt and innovate.

“With our industry rapidly evolving, Lee-Ann’s extensive expertise in driving strategic business outcomes and fostering customer-centric solutions will be invaluable to Chubb Life NZ. The chief actuary plays an important role in supporting both our board and senior leadership team to make strategic business decisions, and we’re looking forward to having Lee-Ann’s voice and unique perspective at the decision-making table,” she said.

Du Toit brings more than 25 years of experience in financial services, encompassing senior roles in actuarial science, sales, marketing, and customer engagement. Her appointment reflects Chubb Life’s strategy to strengthen its leadership as it navigates the evolving insurance landscape in New Zealand.

Other appointments at Chubb

This leadership announcement follows other recent changes at Chubb, including the appointment of John Latter as head of claims for Chubb Overseas General, effective December 2024.

Latter, who has four decades of experience in insurance, previously served as senior vice president and claims director for Europe, Eurasia, and Africa. In his new role, he will oversee claims operations across Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America, and the Middle East.

Paul McNamee, executive vice president of Chubb Group and president of Overseas General Insurance, said Latter’s leadership and technical knowledge would help maintain the company’s claims performance across global markets.

“John exemplifies the technical expertise and the service culture of Chubb, and I’m confident he will build on this legacy through his leadership of our claims organisation internationally,” he said.
