Insurance and investment service provider Medical Assurance Society (MAS) has announced it has added a cyber-bullying benefit to its contents policy, in what is believed to be an industry first.
MAS said contents policyholders and their families can use the cyber-bullying benefit to access counselling. It can be used to help their children to change schools or get private tuition, or pay for the costs of hiring a cybersecurity consultant if required. Policy owners can claim up to $5,000 a year.
“Cyber-bullying can have a detrimental effect on those it impacts,” MAS noted. “Repeated and ongoing attacks online can infiltrate the lives of victims in a number of damaging and pernicious ways.
“We’re pleased to be the first in New Zealand to offer this benefit that is designed to take some of the pressure off during stressful and challenging times,” it added.
