AA Insurance New Zealand has contributed $13,000 to the New Zealand Red Cross Disaster Fund. Acknowledging the recent extreme weather events that battered the country, the insurer said that the donation is meant to support affected communities.
AA Insurance NZ general manager of people and capability Nikki Howell said that the back-to-back weather events have caused enormous devastation across the country, and that its teams wanted to do more to help.
In a LinkedIn post, Howell said that the insurer pledged to match any employee donations to Red Cross “dollar for dollar, to double the impact.” In the end, AA Insurance NZ did more than double the contributions.
“Our people came together to raise over $3,000 for Red Cross, and we’ve extended our contribution to $10,000 to further contribute to the great work Red Cross is doing,” Howell said.
Local insurers in Aotearoa continue to do more in their efforts to help Gabrielle-stricken communities. Recently, Vero donated generators to a local marae which itself was involved in efforts to help communities in need after the floods.
