The New Zealand Automobile Association (AA) has welcomed the launch of the platform, which will give Electric Vehicle (EV) drivers peace of mind in knowing exactly where their next charge is coming from.
EVRoam is a live database created by the NZ Transport Agency. It collects data directly from all of New Zealand’s electric vehicle charging infrastructure providers, such as ChargeNet and Vector.
The idea is that EVRoam will display up-to-date information through AA EV Charge Finder. This will enable drivers to plot their journey between charging stations.
AA Motoring Services General Manager Stella Stocks said the platform will remove all the stress for EV drivers by knowing that a charge point is online with absolute certainty. It is now available for all 1.6 million AA members and the public, on the AA website’s popular travel time and distance calculator.
“Currently there are nearly 9,000 Kiwi EV drivers and that number is expected to increase,” Stocks said. “The AA has an important part to play in providing information that all drivers can use to make informed decisions for the future.”
The launch by Associate Minister of Transport Julie Anne Genter is said to a world-leading collaboration.
“By working together we have achieved a safe secure system which gives New Zealanders a massive advantage on the road to an EV zero carbon future,” Stella added.
