Applications are now open for the Valerie Baker Memorial Award, which recognises excellence in professional practice in the general insurance intermediary sector.
Now in its sixth year, the award, supported by joint sponsors AIMS, Gold Seal, and Steadfast, with additional support from Lloyd’s, will provide the winner with a career-enhancing opportunity to see first-hand how the London Market operates.
The prize includes an expenses-paid trip to London, an education experience tailored to the winner’s special interests, a thorough familiarisation with Lloyd’s of London and the workings of the London market, meetings with brokers, underwriters, and other senior members of the London market, and $1,000 spending money to help the winner make the most of their London experience.
To be eligible for the award, candidates should be a resident in Australia or New Zealand and be currently employed by or the principal of a general insurance intermediary (insurance brokerage or an underwriting agency).
This year’s judging panel of senior industry professionals include Jim Rudkin of Steadfast Group, Chris Mackinnon of Lloyd’s Australia, Martin McAvenna of AIMS, Rocco Pirrello of GSA Insurance Brokers, and Sheila Baker, managing director of Gold Seal (chair).
Nominees will be shortlisted and interviewed by the panel, who will select a winner based on both their interview and application.
Visit the Gold Seal website and follow the steps as outlined to lodge an application or nominate a person for the award. Applications close on July 26.
