A series of fronts continue to affect New Zealand, with more thunderstorms, gusty winds and showery rain expected on Sunday, according to the latest report from MetService.

According to the agency, it is not expecting a repeat of the conditions experienced in Auckland and Taranaki earlier this week, but elements of severe weather will still affect many parts of New Zealand for the coming days.

“It is imperative to be prepared in New Zealand, especially during periods of highly changeable weather,” MetService meteorologist Tom Adams explained.

With some more bad weather on the forecast, the Auckland Council is calling on people to look out for each other and help each other cope under the circumstances.

Should there be a power outage, the council outlined tips for people to follow. These include:

  • Keep your fridge and freezer closed to keep food chilled;
  • If food in the freezer is colder than 4°C and has ice crystals on it, you can refreeze it. When in doubt, throw it out;
  • Contact your doctor if you’re concerned about medications having spoiled;
  • Restock your emergency kit with fresh batteries, canned foods and other supplies;
  • If your power is expected to be out for a day, conserve your hot water.
