Insurance Business recently announced its finalists for the inaugural Women in Insurance Awards, with 24 amazing professionals up for various awards including Broker of the Year, Rising Star and Insurance Professional of the Year.
Charlotte Langridge of Runacres Insurance was just named an Insurance Business Young Gun 2019, and is now up for the Rising Star – Broker award. With just over five years of experience in insurance, Langridge says the industry has visibly changed even within that short period of time – but it is also as important as ever to keep the momentum going.
“It’s an honour to be nominated, and exciting for our industry to have this kind of recognition available,” Langridge said.
“I have seen a great shift in diversity, even within our own office here at Runacres since I joined in 2014. We now have a leadership team of five, two of whom are women. This is a great example of the changes that are happening across the industry, and hopefully a signal that women are increasingly not afraid to put their hands up for higher level positions.”
“Within the team at Runacres, having female leadership allows for more diversity of thought and approach, which can only be a good thing,” she continued. “It also shows other women in the office, like myself, that there is scope for us to continue progressing without limits.”
Langridge says that when it comes to her career, she looks up to those who do not let themselves be limited by pre-existing ideas and are not afraid to forge their own path. While insurance has traditionally been a male-dominated industry, it is important to recognise that this is changing, and recognise the achievements of those who have taken the first steps to make it happen.
“It’s so important to trust our own ambitions and avoid feelings of doubt around our goals or what we want to achieve – both within the workplace and on a personal level,” Langridge said.
“I hope to work in a world where it’s an absolute given that women can achieve any position they wish, within any industry or area of work. While progress is being made towards this, for now it’s important to keep recognising and acknowledging the value women can add; and the benefits for all workplaces to have diversity of all kinds.”
