FMG has revealed that it received 130 claims from the devastating Southland and Otago floods, totalling $1.2 million.
Emma Town, national claims manager at FMG, said the number of claims was “relatively small” – with a majority having filed for damage to homes and general farm contents.
“Purely from an insurance perspective, this hasn’t turned out to be what we’d deem a large event, and our current estimates are around $1.2 million across our 130 claims,” Town told Stuff.co.nz – adding that assessors are still in the affected areas to help policyholders with their claims.
The total number of claims received by all insurance companies from the Southland and Otago floods was not immediately known.
Tim Grafton, chief executive of the Insurance Council of New Zealand (ICNZ), said they might be able to provide provisional figures in late March as it took them a considerable amount of time to get a full picture of the flood’s impact.
“I understand those who needed to have damage assessed have been visited, which means claims can continue to progress,” Grafton said.
