Anthony McPhail, CEO of SCPI, said Vickars’ appointment comes at a time when pet ownership is high in the country, making pet insurance more relevant than ever.

“This shouldn’t come as a surprise, as New Zealanders have one of the highest pet ownership rates in the world,” he said.

“Her credentials are impeccable and we know she will bring a fresh perspective on the value we deliver to our customers and our mission to protect the pet life,” McPhail said.

Vickars shared her enthusiasm for her new role, highlighting the passion of the SCPI team.

“I am so looking forward to joining this team, who are passionate about looking after our furry family members,” she said.

She revealed that SCPI plans to build on its past campaigns to further engage pet owners and promote the value of pet insurance in the coming months.

Southern Cross Pet Insurance earns recognition

SCPI earned a “Highly Commended” mention at the 2024 Reader’s Digest Trusted Brand Awards.

The annual awards, which have been running for 25 years, recognise brands that New Zealanders trust the most across various sectors.

Over the past year, SCPI paid more than $29.9 million in pet insurance claims, providing financial support to pet owners for veterinary care.

In a previous statement, McPhail emphasised SCPI’s commitment to helping New Zealand pets stay healthy and active.

“We’re focused on helping our customers look after their beloved pet family members, which means helping them access the healthcare they need to play ball, chase butterflies, and swim, run, cuddle, and sleep,” he said.

SCPI is part of the larger Southern Cross group, which received top honours in other categories, including health and travel insurance, at the 2024 Reader’s Digest Trusted Brand Awards.
