Global business services company Assurant Inc. has announced the completion of vehicle insurance company Protecta’s rebrand to Assurant following its acquisition, which was first announced in December 2022.
Jeff Strickland, Assurant Dealer Services senior vice president and the incoming president of Assurant Global Automotive, expressed his excitement over the development.
“As we announce Protecta is now Assurant, we complete the journey we started two years ago,” said Strickland.
“We are thrilled to complete Protecta’s rebrand to Assurant, and bring innovative products and services to the market,” said Shannon Beech, head of sales, automotive at Assurant New Zealand. “Assurant’s global capabilities and technology, combined with Protecta’s local talent and over 35 years' experience in the auto sector, will position us to be able to offer you an even better experience.”
Along with the rebrand is the launch of Assurant Vehicle Care, which offers automotive products and solutions such as insurance for mechanical breakdown, motor vehicle, classic vehicle, motorcycle, guaranteed asset protection, and payment protection. The rebrand will also introduce a new dealer portal as well as an improved customer site for availing motor vehicle insurance.
“New Zealand is a strategic market for Assurant, especially in the automotive space, and we are focused on expanding our automotive footprint in the country and across Asia-Pacific,” said Hemaka Perera, president, APAC at Assurant.
Protecta Insurance New Zealand Limited has been specializing in providing insurance for motorists in New Zealand for more than 35 years. It received five stars in the Canstar Awards for Outstanding Value Car Insurance in 2023.
While Protecta is now branded as Assurant, it will still issue the insurance as an agent for Virginia Surety Company Inc, with policies still being underwritten by the firm. Virginia Surety Company is a part of Assurant, Inc. and is a global provider of risk solutions that has received an A+ Financial Strength Rating from AM Best Company.
