The Pacific Catastrophe Risk Insurance Company (PCRIC) has announced the appointment of Irma Daphney Stone (pictured above) as its new risk manager.
Stone's appointment comes with a notable background in regional and public administration. Her experience spans various roles, including positions at the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, University of the South Pacific, and the South Pacific Tourism Organisation.
Prior to joining PCRIC, Stone's career highlights include her tenure as CEO for the Ministry of Revenue and Customs in Tonga and her role as operations manager at the Oceania Customs Organisation in Fiji.
Starting her career in 1994 as a development accountant in Tonga, Stone has a history of breaking new ground. Notably, in 2012, she became the first female CEO of the Ministry of Revenue and Customs in Tonga, a significant achievement in a field where female representation was limited.
In her new role at PCRIC, Stone will be responsible for a broad range of risk management activities. Her duties will include providing technical guidance and advice to the PCRIC board and management team, as well as overseeing the company's segregated cell offering disaster risk financing and insurance (DRFI) products.
Stone's key responsibilities will involve conducting technical reviews, contributing to policy development, and advising on enhancements to PCRIC's risk management system and risk control functions. These tasks are aimed at enabling PCRIC to effectively manage risks, thereby supporting informed decision-making processes in relation to the company's models, products, operations, and interpretation of results.
